This recognition is given to the food industry to comply with the basic requirements of the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009.

Is a precondition for recognition of some scheme guarantees the safety and quality of food under various government agencies such as the 1Malaysia Best Scheme of the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA), Halal Certificate from Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (Jakim), Health Certificate, Certificate of Free Sale and others- other.

This recognition is given to the food industry to recognize the plant has complied with the requirements of the Food Safety Inspection Scheme and Programme of Food Security and Food Traceability System under the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009.

Before Independence, Assistant Environmental Health Officer is known as the "Sanitary Inspector" or "Inspector of nuisances". After independence, the name was changed to "Public Health Inspector" until in 1983, in conjunction with the upgrading of the holders of Diploma in Environmental Health renamed the Health Inspector. Finally in 2002, its name was changed to Assistant Environmental Health Officer (grade civil servants U29 / 32/36) until now. Environmental Health Officer is usually refers to any Health Inspector in a position grade government officials U41 / 42 qualified Bachelor of Environmental Health.
