NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL KAMUNTING started schooling session on January 3, 1984. The school is located in the village of Bukit Timah, Ipoh and near the housing area Malim Jaya.
The school was founded by En. Ong Yong Kwong has been appointed as the first Principal. Moreover, Tn. Hj. Zakaria Bin Abd. Majid, CBC., As the Speaker of the PTA BC All Science, is also responsible for being the founder of this school. This is because, Tn. Hj. Zakaria lot of work through various channels to realize the existence of secondary schools in the vicinity of Taiping. Despite many obstacles encountered by them both, but the support of the villagers and political leaders made obstacles can be overcome.
However, Mr. Kwong and Mr. Ong Yong. Hj. Zakaria Abd. Majid, never give up. Wish they had the support of the population in the Kamunting. Politicians play an important role ahead of elections in 1978 and 1982. Various reasons have been given to a secondary school in kamunting into reality. Among the issues raised were:

- SM All Saints can only take the students from All Saints Primary School only.
- The population in the area increased Kamunting.
- Number of students who go to schools in Taiping will also increase until secondary school in Taiping can not accommodate that amount.
- Factory workers can not afford to send their children to Taiping because of their low incomes.
Finally, for the reasons given above and the support given by the local community and the political parties, the government has given approval to establish a secondary school in the vicinity of Taiping. Construction work started in 1982 and completed by 1984.
